GED and vocational training are provided in a college-like setting. Individuals live and work at the Job Corps centers. Those from East Tennessee would normally be trained at the centers in upper East Tennessee or Kentucky. Job Corps was established in 1964 by the U.S. Dept. of Labor. 1.9 million individuals have been served nationally. |

Youth ages 16 to 24 are eligible. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and must meet federally set income guidelines. Individuals cannot be court ordered to attend. Applicants must be from an area that makes it difficult for them to obtain education or employment. Individuals must be drug and alcohol free. Job Corps does not take individuals on active probation or with felong records. |
